Songoftheday 11/1/18 - Last night I thought to back when we made good love, listenin' to some Marvin Gaye all night long...
"Knockin' Da Boots" - H-Town
from the album Fever For Da Flavor (1993)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #3 (seven weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 20
Today's song of the day comes from the R&B vocal group H-Town, who named their group after their home of Houston, where the trio were friends in high school and came together first as the Gents, releasing one indie album locally before getting discovered by Miami rap mogul Luke Campbell of 2 Live Crew, who signed them with the new moniker H-Town with Dino Conner as the lead singer, backed up by twin brother Shazam (the original lead of the Gents) and G.I. Jackson. The first single from their debut album Fever For Da Flavor was released in the spring of 1993. "Knockin' Da Boots", written by the trio who co-produced the track with "Stick" Burrell, was a swaying booty-call track that was based on a sample of Zapp's R&B hit "Be Alright", and became their biggest success...
"Knockin' Da Boots" became H-Town's first and only top ten pop hit in May of 1993. The song spent four weeks at #1 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart. Their follow-up single "Lick U Up", another slow sultry number, was a minor pop hit at #67, while making it to #21 on the R&B list. That was followed by "Keepin' My Composure", a midtempo track that was my personal fave of the record; it peaked at #46 on the R&B chart. Finally the booty-call track "Baby I Wanna" slipped in at #87 on the R&B list. Because of the success of these four tracks, the trio won Best New Artist at the 1994 Soul Train Music Awards.

Here's the trio appearing live at Showtime At The Apollo to promote the single...
and another live TV shot from the same time...
and lastly, in 1997 performing "Knockin' Da Boots" along with their final top-40 hit, "They Like It Slow"...
Up tomorrow: Dance music singer needs some romantic exposition. Or maybe she's from Missouri.
