"Rise" was the big solo pop single for trumpeter and record company mogul Herb Alpert, who topped the American Hot 100 in 1979 with this funky excursion into jazz-disco. Taken from the Rise album, the song got an unexpected burst of popularity after being included in the soap opera General Hospital where it was used in the scene where Luke raped Laura (yeah, in those days that could be the start of a romantic storyline). On Billboard magazine's Dance/Disco tracks chart, the song peaked at #17, while hitting #1 on their Adult Contemporary radio list and #4 on their R&B chart.
