Today's song of the day comes from Belinda Carlisle, whose second album after leaving the Go-Go's had already netted her a pair of big hits with the #1 "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" and #2 "I Get Weak". The third single from Heaven On Earth was the midtempo ballad "Circle In The Sand". Written by Rick Nowels and Ellen Shipley, who also wrote "Heaven Is A Place...", the single is much less bubbly (dare I say effervescent) than her previous solo singles...

"Circle In The Sand" became the third (and so far most recent) top-10 pop hit from Heaven On Earth in June of 1988. The single also climbed to #5 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart, her best showing there so far. Internationally, the record made the top ten in the UK (#4), Canada (#5), Ireland (#6), and Germany (#9)...
