Pop Sweep: February 6, 2016...

Time to catch up with my rundown of the new songs on the various charts in Billboard magazine, starting with the latest pop hits...

On the "big" chart, Billboard's Hot 100, which combines tallies of sales (like iTunes and Amazon MP3), internet streaming (like Spotify and YouTube), and radio airplay from all genres, Justin Bieber holds at #1 for a third week with "Sorry"...

Pop singer/songwriter Mike Posner returns with the highest debut of the week at #79 with "I Took A Pill In Ibiza". Back in 2010 Mike went to #6 on the chart with "Cooler Than Me". This year-old track, remixed by the duo SeeB, has gone to #1 in Norway and top ten in a few European countries already...

Speaking about older songs, the 2008 single from the Australian alt-dance duo Empire Of The Sun, "Walking On A Dream", finally makes the American chart at #82, no doubt helped by its exposure in the new Honda commericals...

As modern rock band Panic! At The Disco score their first #1 album in America with Death Of A Bachelor, current single "The Emperor's New Clothes" re-enters the chart at #72, while two more tracks make their first appearance. First at #89 is their second single from the set, "Victorious". (First single "Hallelujah" went to #40 last year.)

The title track from Death Of A Bachelor drops in at #92...

French alt-dance artist DJ Snake is back at #95 with "The Middle" featuring British singer Bipolar Sunshine. Born William Grigachine, he's been to #4 twice in America, with "Turn Down For What" with Lil Jon and "Lean On" with Major Lazer and MØ...

Last week's "Pop Pick of the Week", "7 Years" from Danish indie-pop band Lukas Graham, now makes the big chart at #96...

Rapper iLoveMemphis, who rode the viral dance train to #15 on the Hot 100 with "Hit The Quan", now shimmies in at #98 with another fad, "Lean & Dabb"...

And now on to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel, Alessia Cara takes over on top with "Here", while the aforementioned "I Took A Pill In Ibiza" falls in at #37...

Aussie actor/singer Troye Sivan debuts at #39 with "YOUTH". It's the first radio hit in America for the young gay musician, and my "Pop Pick of the Week"...

Canadian singer/songwriter Shawn Hook arrives at #40 with "Sound Of Your Heart"...

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format, Shawn Mendes jumps to #1 with "Stitches"...

Nashville singer/songwriter Ben Rector finally gets a hit with the title track from his sixth studio album Brand New at #35...

As Mendes tops this chart, he "bookends" it with his entry at #40, "I Know What You Did Last Summer" with Camila Cebello...

Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary, or "easy listening" radio chart, Adele's "Hello" reigns for a tenth week...

New Jersey's own Charlie Puth comes in at #20 with "One Call Away". His solo version of "See You Again" made it to #13 on this format...

That's all for the start of this week's musical journey...I'll return with the latest on rock radio...
