Songoftheday 1/11/16 - Baby when the night comes down, you know where I can be found dancing in a midnight fantasy...

"Nightime" - Pretty Poison
from the album Catch Me I'm Falling (1988)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #36 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 4

Today's song of the day comes from the Philly dance-rock band Pretty Poison, who scored a top-10 hit on the pop chart in the winter of 1987 with their Hiding Out soundtrack hit "Catch Me (I'm Falling)". With the success of that single, they re-released their first hit, "Nightime", which was released independently in 1984 and hit #14 on the dance chart and #82 on the R&B chart. Written by lead singer Jade Starling and bandmate Whey Cooler, and a new remix for the album, the song got a second chance at pop radio...

"Nightime" became Pretty Poison's second and final top-40 pop hit in May of 1988. The single also re-entered the R&B chart, scaling to #83 (one rung below its original peak in 1984), while on Billboard's Dance Club Play chart is jumped in again moving up to #13.

The band released a third single from their debut album, the freestyle jam "When I Look Into Your Eyes", which went to #10 on the dance chart. After being absent for nearly a decade since, they returned in 1997 with "Let Freedom Ring" (also originally from the Catch Me I'm Falling album), which went to #33 on the club chart. Starling has also had a few dance hits as a solo artist, with "Better And Better" going to #3 in 2015...
