Soul Sweep: February 6, 2016...






We're at the "hump" of this week's music sweeps, sampling the songs making their way on to the Billboard charts, and this time up I'm serving up the latest hits on R&B radio...

On the main R&B/Hip Hop Airplay chart, Tory Lanez scores his first #1 hit with "Say It"...

There's apparently no escaping Bieber fever as Justin's "Sorry", the #1 pop hit in America, crosses over to the R&B radio chart at #44. The last time he was on this chart was in 2012 with "Boyfriend", peaking at #52...

Vocal group After 7 returns to the chart at #45 with "I Want You". Back in 1990, they had back-to-back #1 hits on the chart with "Ready Or Not" and "Can't Stop". The song is up at #11 on the Adult R&B list. After 7 has two brothers of Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds in the lineup...



Another Adult R&B crossover, "Good Love" from Keith Sweat, moves in at #48. It jumps five spots to #14 on the other chart. He's went to #1 six times on the main R&B chart, starting with "I Want Her" in 1988...


Rappers Ty Dolla $ign and E-40 team up at #49 for "Saved"...


O.T. Genasis drives in at #50 for "Cut It" featuring Young Dolph. It's the follow-up to "Coco", which peaked at #17 last March...


Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult R&B radio panel, Tyrese spends a fourteenth non-consecutive week at #1 with "Shame"...

RO James lands his first hit at #24 with "Permission"...


The reunited SWV are back at #30 with "MCE (Man Crush Everyday)", my "Soul Pick of the Week".... It's the second single from their Still album; the first, "Ain't No Man", went to #13 here...


Lastly, on the Rhythmic format, whose stations include more dance/pop songs on their playlists, rappers Drake and Future move to the top with "Jumpman"...

Rapper Young Thug stomps in at #32 with "Best Friend". The track jumps to #12 on the main R&B chart...


R&B artist Eric Bellinger enters at #33 with "Valet" featuring rappers Fetty Wap and 2 Chainz. He's the son of Motown songwriter and soul singer in his own right Bobby Day...


Pitbull barks in at #36 with "El Taxi" featuring Sensato, Lil' Jon, and Osmani Garcia...


Rapper Fabolous rounds things up at #40 with "Doin' It Well" featuring Trey Songz and Nicki Minaj...
