Songoftheday 1/10/16 - The rumors are vicious my ears are burning, it's been a long hard day...

"I'm Still Searching" - Glass Tiger
from the album Diamond Sun (1988)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #31 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 5

Today's song of the day comes from the Canadian rock group Glass Tiger, whose debut album Thin Red Line scored a pair of top ten pop hits in the U.S. with "Don't Forget Me (When I'm Gone)" and "Someday" as well as a top-40 follow-up in "I Will Be There". Two years later, the band released their sophomore effort, Diamond Sun. The first single, "I'm Still Searching", was written by lead singer Alan Frew, keyboardist Sam Reid, and drummer Michael Hanson, and produced by Bryan Adams collaborator Jim Vallance. The more straight-forward rock track put the synths in the background this time...

"I'm Still Searching" became Glass Tiger's fourth and so-far last top-40 pop hit in America in May of 1988. The single also climbed to #12 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart - their highest rank on that list. Internationally, the song peaked at #2 in their native Canada.

The title track from Diamond Sun was released as a follow-up, but even though it made it to #5 in Canada, it missed the U.S. charts completely. In 1991, the group released their third album, Simple Mission, which scored four top ten hits in Canada, with "Animal Heart" reaching #4, and track "My Town" with Rod Stewart becoming their second top-40 hit in Britain at #33, but was ignored in the States. Shortly after, Glass Tiger split for awhile, with Frew having a couple of solo hits in Canada, like "Healing Hands" which topped out at #8 in 1994. The band reunited the naughties and has been touring since.

Up tomorrow: a noxious band is in for the evening.
