Today's Song of the Day is by Grrrrl rocker Joan Jett and her Blackhearts, who started out her third studio album (simply called Album) with the top-40 hit "Fake Friends". To follow it up, Joan released a cover of the soul-rock classic "Everyday People". Originally done by its creator, Sly & The Family Stone, the single topped the pop and R&B charts at the end of 1968...

Joan took the song and took out the soul but kept the joy, making it a passable if not remarkable cover...
The single became Joan's fifth top-40 hit, but the first to miss the rock chart. It also scraped the bottom of the pop chart in Australia.
In 1992, alt-rap collective Arrested Development interpolated the song for the top-10 pop hit "People Everyday"...
