Songoftheday 4/18/13 - The water shines a pebble skips across the face a dozen times, then disappears not a trace left behind...

The Human League - "Mirror Man"
from the EP Fascination (1983)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 5

Today's Song of the Day is by the groundbreaking British pop/new wave group the Human League, who were the first band of the "New Second British Invasion" to have a big hit with their chart-topping "Don't You Want Me" in 1982. A year later, they released a stop-gap EP, and another top-10 hit "(Keep Feelin') Fascination" resulted. The next American single was released in Britain back in the end of '82, and went all the way to #2 there. Written by singer Phil Oakey along with bandmates Ian Burden and Jo Callis, the song was a veiled reference to over the top performer Adam Ant, done to the seemingly robotic Motown cover-band sound.

"Mirror Man" became the group's third top-40 hit (and last under this lineup), and it topped the singles chart in Ireland as well. It also went to #22 on the rock radio chart (where it appeared before the "Fascination" single due to crossover play when it was a British hit).
