Pop Sweep: May 4, 2013...

Hey gang, it's time to kick off this week's "chart sweeps" sampling the new songs making their way on to the singles charts in Billboard magazine. As always I'll start on the pop side of the house...

On the big chart, Billboard's Hot 100, Pink spends a second week at #1 with "Just Give Me A Reason" featuring Nate Ruess of fun, who co-wrote the song with her and producer Jeff Bhasker.

The top debut at #19 is the return of French neo-house legends Daft Punk, who after only putting their new single "Get Lucky" on sale last Friday (April 19th) have enough sales to come in at #19 on the chart. Previously they reached only #61 with both "Around The World" in 1997 and "One More Time" in 2000...

Arriving at #58 is the third track from Black Eyed Pea will.i.am's just-released album #willpower to reach the Hot 100. "Fall Down" features former Disney queen, country/pop singer, and apparent twerker Miley Cyrus on vocals...

Pop/R&B singer/songwriter Jason Derulo is back at #75 with "The Other Side". Jason has placed three singles (though his first three) in the top-10 on the chart.

The fourth single from Scottish DJ/producer Calvin Harris' excellent 18 Months set (not including his #1 Rihanna hit "We Found Love", which also appears on the CD) debuts on the chart as "I Need Your Love" featuring Ellie Goulding comes in at #76, and it's my "Pop Pick of the Week"...

Latin soul star Miguel enters at #88 with the followup to his Grammy winning "Adorn", "How Many Drinks?", which samples the 70's soft-rock classic "We've Only Just Begun"...

"Blue-eyed" soul master Robin Thicke debuts at #94 with his new single, "Blurred Lines" featuring rappers T.I. and Pharrell...(NSFW for the "b" word)

The final debut on the big chart is the latest from Jamaican pop singer Sean Kingston, with "Beat It" at #98 featuring Chris Brown and Wiz Khalifa. Sean has gone to the top-10 three times, with "Beautiful Girls" topping the chart in 2007...um is it like, um, too soon for Brown to be singing on a song called "Beat It"?

..and now off to the radio format charts...

On the Mainstream top-40 Pop radio chart, Rihanna climbs to #1 with "Stay" featuring Mikky Ekko, while the aforementioned "I Need Your Love" from Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding is the top debut at #33...

The other entry is the #1 rock hit "Radioactive" from Las Vegas modern rock group Imagine Dragons...

Meanwhile, over on the Adult Top-40 format list, Bruno Mars' "When I Was Your Man" spends a second week on top...

Jetting in at #30 is Kelly Clarkson with the followup to her top-5 AT40 hit "Catch My Breath". "People Like Us" is from the American Idol winner's first greatest hits set...

Canadian lite-riot grrrl Avril Lavigne is back at #38 with "Here's To Never Growing Up"...

The final entry on the list at #40 is Matchbox Twenty with "Our Song", the third hit from their #1 album North...

Lastly, on the older-skewing Adult Contemporary chart, there's been three different #1 singles in three weeks, which hasn't happened since August since last year, as "Ho Hey" by the Lumineers ascends to the top...

The #1 Hot 100 hit "Just Give Me A Reason" crosses over to the Adult Contemporary chart at #24..

Meanwhile, Rihanna's #1 mainstream hit "Stay" arrives at this format at #30...

I'll return in 90 minutes with the latest on Rock Radio.....
