Songoftheday 1/16/15 - Tell me lawyer what to do I think I'm fallin' in love with you, defend me from the way I feel...

"Typical Male" - Tina Turner
from the album Break Every Rule (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #2 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 12

Today's Song of the Day comes from singer Tina Turner, who followed her big "comeback" turn with the Private Dancer album by starring in the movie Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, with a couple of big hits as a bonus with "One Of The Living" and the #2 single "We Don't Need Another Hero". Hoping to recapture the magic, Tina enlisted Terry Britten and Graham Lyle, the men behind her #1 hit "What's Love Got To Do With It" as well as "We Don't Need..." to write and produce the entire "A-side" of her next album, Break Every Rule. On it was the first single from the set, the quasi-Caribbean beat of "Typical Male", with Phil Collins pounding the drums away...

"Typical Male" climbed to the runner-up spot on the American pop chart in October of 1986. The single also crossed over to both the R&B (#3) and Adult Contemporary (#23) charts in Billboard magazine. The extended remix just missed the top-ten as well, peaking at #11. Internationally, while the song was a top-ten smash in central Europe like Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (her future home), it was only a moderate hit in England (where her "comeback" first grabbed hold) at #33.

Here's Tina rockin' it out in 1988...

..and again from her 1990 tour...

...and finally, proving she still's got it in 2009...

Mind you, she is freaking 70 years old right there.

Up tomorrow: a northwestern duo is beyond coming back.
