Pop Sweep: January 10, 2015...

It's time to kick off the first of today's five "chart sweeps", sampling the song making their way on to the various charts in Billboard magazine this week. As usual, I'll start out on the pop side of things, and then later in the day move on to the latest on rock, R&B, country, and dance music...

On the "big" chart, Billboard's Hot 100, which combines tallies of radio airplays of all formats, internet streaming (like Spotify and YouTube), and sales (like Amazon and iTunes), Taylor Swift spends a seventh week at #1 with "Blank Space"...

The top new entry of the week at #49 is "Earned It (Fifty Shades Of Grey)" from alt-R&B singer The Weeknd from the upcoming 50 Shades Of Grey movie. It's his third hit as a lead artist (and highest rank of those three), while his featured spot on Ariana Grande's "Love Me Harder" drops from its peak of #7 to #11 this week...

Bachata Latin star Prince Royce lands his second hit on the chart with his "Stuck On A Feeling" featuring Snoop Dogg at #93. Last year his Spanish-language "Darte Un Beso" came in at #78...

Rapper French Montana returns at #95 with "Bad B*tch" featuring Jeremih. It's the first single to make the pop chart from his upcoming second studio release The Mac & Cheese Album. His first, Excuse My French, produced the top-40 hit "Pop That" in 2012...

Becky G follows up her top-20 pop hit "Shower" with the song at #98, "Can't Stop Dancin'"...

The final Hot 100 newbie at #100 is Meghan Trainor with the "title" cut from her upcoming album, appropriately called "Title", and it's my "Pop Pick of the Week"...

And now on to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel, "Blank Space" rules for a third week...

The sole new entry at #38 is Australian boy-band 5 Seconds of Summer with a cut from their top-10 live album, a cover of the Romantics' "What I Like About You". Michael Morales had a top-40 hit with his version of the song in 1989...

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format,  Taylor Swift remains at #1 for a second week...

Ariana Grande nabs the tail end of the holiday season programming as "Santa Tell Me" sneaks on at #39. Her current radio hit "Love Me Harder" also climbs to #28. The song also jumps to #1 on Billboard's "Holiday 100", replacing (ironically) Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You"...

One Direction hopes to duplicate the #1 HAC success of their single "Story Of My Life" from last year with their new single, "Night Changes" at #40...

Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary (or "Easy Listening") radio chart, which finally switches away from all-holiday programming, Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" leaps back from #8 to #1 for a fifth non-consecutive week, and there are no new entries (only "re-entries")...

That's it for the start of today's musical trip...I'll be back in 90 minutes with the latest songs on rock radio...
