Brit Sweep: January 11, 2015...


The weekend is coming to a close, and it's time to check out the songs making their debut on the official singles chart in the UK this week, as Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars spend a fourth non-consecutive week (out of five total) at #1 with "Uptown Funk!"...

In another slow post-holiday week on the chart, only one song makes it entrance within the top-40. Martin Bresso, a DJ and producer from Paris that records under the moniker Tchami, lands at #7 with his first hit, "Promesses"...

Singer Tulisa (Contostavlos), who was a part of the hitmaking trio N-Dubz before a successful solo stint as a judge on the X Factor UK, returns at #44 with "Living Without You". Her first solo single, "Young", went all the way to #1 in 2012. Tulisa subbed in for Mel B (Scary Spice) on the finale for the last X Factor season...


While indie-pop singer-songwriter James Bay's "Hold Back The River" jumps into the top-40 at #36, his next single, "Scars", enters at #63. It's my "Brit Pick of the Week"....


American pop-punk band Fall Out Boy are back at #70 with "Irresistible". It follows their "Centuries", which peaked at #22 in the UK...


London Afro-soul artist Fuse ODG pops in at #79 with "Thinking About You" featuring Killbeatz. Last year he took "Dangerous Love" to #3 on the chart...


Jamaican reggae singer OMI arrives at #96 with "Cheerleader", a former #1 hit in Denmark...


The final newbie of the week at #97 comes from Norwegian DJ and producer Kygo with "Firestone" featuring Conrad.  The record topped the singles chart in his homeland...
