Tina Turner - "We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)"
from the album Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (Original Soundtrack) (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #2 (one week)
Weeks in the top-40: 12

Today's Song of the Day comes from Tina Turner, whose amazing comeback with her Private Dancer album, with five top-40 hits in the US including the #1 "What's Love Got To Do With It" and the top-tenners "Better Be Good To Me" and the title track. She also was a part of the #1 charity single "We Are The World" in 1985. That same year she appeared in the third movie in the Mad Max franchise Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome as the ruler of the apocalyptic Bartertown as Auntie Entity. Not only did she play the main "antagonist" in the movie, but she recorded two songs for the soundtrack. The first, "We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)", was released as the first single. Written by the same team who wrote "What's Love....", Terry Britten and Graham Lyle, and produced by the former, the song was a great showcase for Tina's voice that would compete with any James Bond theme...

"We Don't Need Another Hero" became Tina's fourth solo top-10 single in September of 1985, while going all the way to #1 in Canada. In America, the single crossed over to many formats, proving Tina's broad appeal; besides going to #3 on both the R&B and Adult Contemporary charts, the single even made the top-30 on both the Mainstream Rock and Dance Club Play charts in Billboard. Internationally, the single was huge, topping the lists in Germany and Australia, and going top-ten most everywhere else. It would go on to nab nominations for both a Golden Globe and a Grammy...
