French Sweep: May 20,2014...

I'm ready to cross back over the Atlantic to check out the songs making the top 100 of the official sales chart in France this week. After 22 non-consecutive weeks at #1 Pharrell is taken out of the top spot, but not by a new record, but rather an "oldie"; Milky Chance, a German folk-pop duo, move up to #1 with "Stolen Dance" in their 19th week on the chart. They've already been to #1 in their home country. Mind you, since Pharrell is still at #2, he has a chance to move back up (a "milky chance"?)

The top debut of the week pairs one of the biggest supermodels of the world (no, not RuPaul), Gisele Bündchen, with French remixer Bob Sinclar for a cover of Blondie's "Heart Of Glass" for a charity single sponsored by the H&M clothing chain. It entered the chart at #31. Interestingly, the original single has yet to make the top 100 in this country...

France really has gotten the short end of the stick at Eurovision lately, and this year was the worst, where their entry only garnered two points in the final (one point each from two different countries). Hell, even their own entry didn't even make the top 100 selling singles, as Twin Twin's "Moustache" shows up at a horrid #115. The winner of this years song contest, "Rise Like A Phoenix" from Austria's bearded queen Conchita Wurst, makes its debut here at #44...

Australian singer/songwriter Sia comes in at #50 with "Chandelier". She has been to the top-10 in France twice, both as a featured artist; first in 2011 with David Guetta's "Titanium" (#3), and then again a year later with Guetta again on "She Wolf (Falling To Pieces)" (#4)...

French rapper Marin Monster makes his debut at #69 with "Pour Commencer" ("For To Begin") featuring Maitre Gims...

American indie-rock duo the Black Keys drop in at #84 with "Fever". In 2011 they reached the top-40 in France with "Lonely Boy"...

The fifth single from Swedish EDM king Avicii's True album, "Lay Me Down", enters the chart at #94. The first, "Wake Me Up!", topped the list here last year. Adam Lambert provides the vocals here..

The final debut of the week is another one from the Black Keys - this time the title track to their just-released album "Turn Blue"...

I'll return later with the latest in Germany...
