Madonna - "Dress You Up"
from the album Like A Virgin (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #5 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 11
Today's Song of the Day comes from Madonna, whose second album Like A Virgin had already spun off three huge hits with the top-5 singles "Material Girl" and "Angel" as well as the title track which topped the American pop charts for six weeks. The artist released "Dress You Up" as the fourth single from the project. Written by relative unknowns Andrea LaRusso and Peggy Stanziale, the bouncy dance-pop track produced by Nile Rodgers was custom made for the dance floor but avoided sounding like a Chic record, something the whole album is the better for...
"Dress You Up" became Madonna's fourth top-5 hit from Like A Virgin in October of 1985, while reaching #3 on the dance club play chart. The single also crossed over to Billboard's adult contemporary (#32) and R&B (#64) radio charts. Internationally, the single climbed to #5 in both England and Australia, and went top ten in Canada, Belgium, the Netherlands, and New Zealand.
