Songoftheday 5/6/14 - Darlin' when the nights get cold and lonely I'll keep you warm...

Billy Ocean - "Mystery Lady"
from the album Suddenly (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #24 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 8

Today's Song of the Day comes from Trinidadian pop/soul singer Billy Ocean, whose breakthrough album Suddenly had already generated three top-10 singles with the title track, "Loverboy", and the #1 "Caribbean Queen". For his fourth and final single from the album Billy released the midtempo adult R&B contemporary jam "Mystery Lady", written by the artist with producer Keith Diamond and James Woodley, and it was a breezy respite from the harsh-sounding new wave of the time...

"Mystery Lady" became the fourth top-40 pop hit from the album in America in August of 1985, while just making the halfway point on the British chart at #49. The single did better on both R&B (#10) and adult contemporary radio (#5) in the U.S. according to Billboard's weekly charts. And as much as I would pull out by Depeche Mode and New Order records, I would always lean on good old Billy to relax with.

...and here's Billy live in concert from 1987. He does do a great show live...
