Brit Sweep: September 23, 2012..

Good evening, gang, it's time to wrap the weekend up with the latest music selling in the UK, according to their official singles chart. This week the Script with will.i.am hang on to the #1 spot for a second week with "Hall Of Fame"...

This week's highest debut is by singer/rapper/songwriter Example, who arrives at #2 with "Say Nothing". Born Eliot Gleave, he topped the British chart twice in a row last year, with "Changed The Way You Kiss Me" and "Stay Awake". The new song, his third to peak (so far) at #2, is from his upcoming album The Evolution Of Man, due in November...

Another British singer/rapper, Dappy, had a solo #1 hit last year as well with "No Regrets". His latest, "Good Intentions", comes in at #12...

Jessica Wright is a member of the cast of The Only Way Is Essex, Britain's psuedo-reality show in the manner of The Hills. One of the cast members on the show, Jessica Wright, who has been on since the beginning, enters at #36 with her single "Dance All Night"...

Irish singer/songwriter Damien Rice enters the chart at #59 thanks to his song "Coconut Skins" being used at an audition for the British X Factor by Robbie Hance. The show's been good to Rice; last year his "Cannonball" was chosen as the "winner's single", and his original returned to the top-10.

Another X Factor audition by Carolynne Poole helps Emeli Sande's "Clown" to come in at #62. Sande went to #1 in 2011 supporting Professor Green on "Read All About It", and this new track is my favorite from her amazing album Our Version Of Events...

At #64 is American rapper Pitbull, who has been to #1 twice in the UK, once as a lead artist ("Give Me Everything") and once in a featured credit ("On The Floor" with Jennifer Lopez). This time out he gets help from Colombian siren Shakira, who has also topped the chart twice, with "Hips Don't Lie" and "Beautiful Liar" in the mid-2000's. Their new collab is "Get It Started"..

Canadian Carly Rae Jepsen's new album Kiss debuts in the top-10 in the UK this week, and one of the album tracks, "Beautiful" featuring Justin Beiber, enters at #68. Carly hit #1 earlier this year with "Call Me Maybe", while the Biebs biggest in the UK so far has been the #2 hit "Boyfriend"...

Israeli singer Asaf Avidan and the Mojos are at #1 in Germany with their first hit "One Day/Reckoning Song", and they now cross over to English shores at #79...

Australian YouTube comic troupe Janoskians (which stands for "Just Another Name Of Silly Kids In Another Nation, Skip) get their first UK chart hit at #91 with "Set This World On Fire"...

The last debut on this week's UK top-100 is by rappers Kanye West and singer R. Kelly who come in at #94 with a track off Kanye's Good Music record company compilation, Cruel Summer, "To The World". Kanye went to #1 with "Stronger", while R. Kelly topped it with both "I Believe I Can Fly" and "Ignition (Remix)".

That does it for this week's "Brit Sweep", thanks for coming, please come back tomorrow for another "Song of the Day", candletime, part two of this week's "Album Sweep", and the "Robbed Hit" of the week. Cheers!
