Album Sweep: September 15, 2012 - Part One...

It's time for the first part of this week's "album sweep" to sample the new records selling this week according to Billboard magazine.I've also included links to pick up the albums on Amazon if available (just click on the highlighted album title.

The new #1 record on the Top 200 Albums chart is by the Christian pop singer TobyMac, with his sixth album Eye On It. This is the first time a Christian-oriented album has led the list since LeAnn Rimes' spiritual-tinged You Light Up My Life in 1997. His previous solo high was #6 with 2010's Tonight, as his new one is his third number one Christian album.

Who TobyMac beat out this week is rap supergroup Slaughterhouse, who are comprised of Crooked I, Joe Budden (who had a top-10 album in 2003), Joell Ortiz (who had a minor hit album last year), and Royce da 5'9" (who's charted 3 of his own albums and had a #1 album as part of the duo Bad Meets Evil with Eminem). Their second album, Welcome To Our House, comes in at #2...

Alanis Morissette has one of the biggest-selling albums of all time in 1995's Jagged Little Pill, and after a four-year break, her new set, Havoc And Bright Lights, debuts at #5...

Doylestown, Pennsylvania indie-rock outfit Circa Survive score their second top-20 album as Violent Waves comes in at #15...

R&B singer Tamia is back with her second top-40 album, Beautiful Surprise, at #23...

Meanwhile, fellow R&B singer Dwele has his third straight top-40 album (and top-10 R&B album) with his latest, Greater Than One, at #30...

Seattle-based indie rock group Minus The Bear score their highest-charting album and first top-40 record with Infinity Overhead at #31...

North Carolina gospel singer and pastor John P. Kee & New Life enter at #32 with Life And Favor. It's the top gospel album this week...

Another gospel singer, VaShawn Mitchell, debuts at #46 with Created4This...

Country singer Josh Turner's Cracker Barrel store exclusive Live Across America contains versions of nine of his hits, and comes in at #48...

Hilarious comedian Jim Gaffigan arrives at #53 with his latest set, Mr. Universe...it's from his awesome 5$ show he did on the interwebs in April...

Indie-rock supergroup Divine Fits is Britt Daniel of Spoon, Dan Boeckner of Wolf Parade, and Sam Brown of New Bomb Turks. Their first album, A Thing Called Divine Fits, debuts at #54...

Legendary Mexican rock band Mana storm in at #80 with their retrospective Exiliados Es La Bahia: Lo Major de Mana. Their last two studio albums went top-5...

Well, that wraps it up for this half...out of this baker's dozen I'd recommend the Alanis Morissette, Circa Survive, and Minus the Bear albums the most (though the Gaffigan album is hysterical and worth purchasing the video for).

Check back later tomorrow for the second half of this week's sweep, but in the meantime tonight I'll bring you the newest in England on Brit Sweep. Cheers!
