Twostepcub's New Music Roundup 10/22/22....
Hey everyone, it's time for this week's New Music Roundup, where I offer up my faves of the songs reaching the various singles charts in Billboard magazine in the US and the Official Chart in the UK.
"Seeing Someone Else" - Ingrid Andress
from the album Good Person (2022)
Billboard Adult Top-40 debut: #40
As Andress is in the country radio top ten with her duet with Sam Hunt on "Wishful Drinking", she goes his crossover pop route for the first time with this burned-women track from her sophomore album. Ingrid carries the anger and betrayal and insecurity very well, and the production soars without being canned.

"Edging" - Blink-182
from the single (2022)
Billboard Rock Airplay debut: #2
Billboard Mainstream Rock debut: #33
Billboard Alternative Rock debut: #12
Man, it feels good for the band to be back together. Tom Delonge reunites with Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker to take us right back to 2000 with this sing-along silliness that is just the release needed this week.
"Saviour II" - Black Veil Brides
from the EP The Mourning (2022)
Billboard Mainstream Rock debut: #38
Goth-metal rockers go epic in this song from their just-released EP of songs recorded during their sessions for their last album The Phantom Tomorrow. Melodic and nicely orchestrated.
"Change Of Heart" - Margo Price
from the album Strays (TBA)
Billboard Adult Album Alternative (Triple-A) Rock debut: #38
Price brings on the country rock hard in this snarling yes softer song from her upcoming fourth album.
"Friends" - Monica featuring Ty Dolla $ign
from the album Trenches (TBA)
Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay debut: #50
Monica was just turned into a teen when she had her breakthrough hit "Don't Take It Personal" back in 1995, and she's still going strong with this venture to bedroom soul that may have been better if they didn't Auto-tune her to oblivion, but maybe it was for consistency with rapper Ty Dolla $ign who sings his lines as well. Still a nice slow jam.
"Waste My Time" - Ari Lennox
from the album Age/Sex/Location (2022)
Billboard Adult R&B debut: #26
Neo-Neo soul singer Lennox spares no fools in demanding what she wants in the bedroom with this record with an infectious groove.
"Rock and a Hard Place" - Bailey Zimmerman
from the album Leave The Light On (2022)
Billboard Country Airplay debut: #58
After months on Billboard's Hot 100, reaching the top-40 thanks to streaming and sales, TikTok-famous singer Zimmerman finally impacts country radio with this ballad that's bringing throaty rural drama to a new audience.
from the album Alive (2022)
Billboard Dance/Electronic Songs debut: #24
The better of the two songs that debut on the charts from Gryffin's upcoming second album, this one pairs the DJ/producer with R&B singer Tinashe, who fits into this Dua Lipa-style electro-pop groove much better than I expected.
"LIKE YXU WXULD KNXW (AUTUMN TREES)" - Kordhell x Scarlxrd x CORPSE
from the single (2022)
Billboard Dance/Electronic Songs debut: #32
Billboard Dance/Electronic Songs debut: #32
British black metal producer/musician Mick Kenney, of the bands Anaal Nathrakh and Make Them Die Slowly, introduces the world to "witchcore" with his dark second hit single, collaborating with "trap metal" rapper Scarlxrd and mysterious YouTuber CORPSE. A fresh take on industrial dance music that is here just in time for Halloween.
"All By Myself" -- Alok, Sigala, & Ellie Goulding
from the albums Every Cloud (Sigala) and Higher Than Heaven (Ellie Goudling) (both 2023)
Billboard Dance/Electronic Songs debut: #42
Brazilian DJ/producer Alok teams up with British producer Sigala and singer Ellie Goulding to interpolate Depeche Mode's "Enjoy The Silence" for this club charmer.
"Ghost Of You" - Mimi Webb
from the album Amelia (2023)
British Official Singles Chart debut: #23
The pop singer from Canterbury delivers a second preview of her debut full-length album due next year, and this bop is immediately singable as you continue dancing on your own. I'm in love with this one.
"Miss You" - southstar
from the single (2022)
British Official Singles Chart debut: #62
This track is this week's "controversial" pick; this one is the "original" done by German upstart DJ Leon Kirschnek, which Robin Schulz replicated for his own identical single which also came in at #28. Problem is, the track, which speeds up and samples Oliver Tree's "Jerk"; the more connected Schulz nabbed the official blessing to use Tree's sample, with southstar using a copy (cleared but a different vocal). I'm giving props to Kirschnek on this one.
"Die Of A Broken Heart" - Olly Murs
from the album Marry Me (2023)
British Airplay Chart debut: #7
X Factor veteran turned The Voice UK coach Murs approximates Sting singing tropical house with his first single from his upcoming first album on new label EMI Records.
"Kiss Me" - Dermot Kennedy
from the album Sonder (2022)
British Airplay Chart debut: #47
This is the Irish singer/songwriter's third top ten hit from his upcoming sophomore album in his homeland, and it deserves a wide audience, with his fatalist emotional flag flying.
"Face It Alone" - Queen
from the album The Miracle (Collector's Edition) (2022)
British Singles Sales Chart debut: #6
An outtake from the classic rock band's 1989 album gets finished and ready for the new reissue, which is especially poignant in that Freddie Mercury was living this song as he was succumbing to the AIDS virus during its recording.
I'll be back tomorrow with my picks for the albums making the charts this week.Let me know your favorites of this crop. Cheers!
