"The Message Is Love" was a club hit for DJ/producer Arthur Baker featuring soul icon Al Green. Appearing on Baker's album Merge with the Backbeat Disciples, the song was written and produced by Baker with Richard Scher. On Billboard magazine's Dance Club Play chart, the single peaked at #39 in 1990. The record also peaked at #84 on their R&B Singles chart and was a top-40 hit in the United Kingdom at #38.
