Songoftheday 5/28/22 -Hey boy don't you know I've got something goin' on, all my friends are gonna come gonna party all night long...

from the album Christina Aguilera (1999)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1 (four weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 16

Today's song comes from Christina Aguilera, whose debut album had already spun off three huge pop hits with "I Turn To You" and two #1 smashes with "Genie In A Bottle" and "What A Girl Wants". For the fourth and final single from the record, producers Ron Fair and Johan Aberg overhauled the album track "Come On Over (All I Want Is You)", which originally was low-key filler to a brash dance number with the help of no less than seven co-writers including new co-producer Ron Fair, Chaka Blackmon, Ray Cham, Eric Dawkins, Shelly Peiken, and Guy Roche, as well as Aguilera herself. The added rap and bridge punched up the song enough to make radio notice, and it became another massive radio success. Most of the changes are in the sound of the record, though Christina re-recorded a much more assertive vocal and her cooing rap and the name-check of "What A Girl Wants" at the climax are good choices..

"Come On Over Baby" became Christina's third #1 pop hit in October of 2000. So far its also her most recent solo lead artist charttopper, though she'll be back to the top with collaborations and featured gigs. The song got to #36 on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 radio chart, while making it to #6 on the dance-oriented Rhythmic format. Internationally, the single reached the top ten in New Zealand (#2), Iceland (#3), Canada (#4), Hungary (#4), the UK (#8), Australia (#9), the Netherlands (#9), and Ireland (#9). Christina will be back to the series.
