Songoftheday 5/31/21 - Girl it just ain't right what we said last night, 'cause I know we didn't mean it...
"I Still Love You" - Next
from the album Rated Next (1997)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #14 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 17
Today's song of the day comes from the R&B vocal group Next, who had landed the biggest hit of 1998 on Billboard magazine's official Hot 100 pop chart with "Too Close", and also scored a top-20 single with their first try "Butta Love". The third and final release from their debut album would be the smooth mid-tempo "I Still Love You". Built on an interpolation of the Deele's 1988 top ten pop hit "Two Occasions", has lead singer R.L. Huggar and siblings Terry and Raphael Brown trying to convince their woman not to end things after a fight the previous night, and how good relationships have their highs and lows. though not promising much more than sticking around. In any case, it fit on R&B and pop radio, and the trio found themselves with another decent hit...
"I Still Love You" became Next's third top-20 pop hit in October of 1998. The song also climbed to #4 on Billboard's R&B chart. Internationally, the single was a top-40 hit in Australia at #31. The trio will appear on this series again.
