"Who Is He and What Is He To You" was a big club hit for Me'Shell Ndegeocello. Appearing on her album Peace Beyond Passion, the track is a remake of Bill Withers' 70s soul nugget written by him with Stan McKinney, and produced by David Gamson. On Billboard magazine's Dance Club Play chart, the single spent a week at #1 in 1996.
