"Woof Woof" - 69 Boyz
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #31 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 4

Today's song of the day comes from the "Miami Bass"-style rap duo 69 Boyz, who had one of the biggest hits of the genre in the beginning of 1995 with the dance track "Toostee Roll".  Three years later, after appearing on the top ten soundtrack to the movie Sunset Park with the minor R&B hit "Hoop N Yo Face" (Pop #95/R&B#62), Albert Van "Thrill Da Playa" Bryant and Barry "Fast" Wright returned with their second album The Wait Is Over on the dance-heavy Big Beat Records label. "Woof Woof", written by Bryant, also got big exposure by being in the Eddie Murphy reboot of the Dr. Doolittle movie, and also being placed on that soundtrack as well. "Woof Woof" was another silly and frenetic dance track, with the dog barking meme going with the movie's premise, but really about their animalistic pursuit of sexy ladies. You can barely tell what Bryant is saying, but with clips from the movie in the video, it placed itself on car speakers everywhere...

"Woof Woof" became 69 Boyz' second and final top-40 pop hit in August of 1998. The song also climbed to #24 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart, and #2 on their Rap Singles list. Internationally, the single reached the top-40 in New Zealand at #26. The Wait Is Over album, released in July of 1998, peaked at #114 on the Billboard 200 sales tally. The Dr. Doolittle soundtrack, which came out a month before, crested at #4 and would produce more hits.

As for the 69 Boyz, that would be their final time on the pop chart. In 2000, the act came back with their third effort 2069, which was put out independently. Lead single "How We Roll" became their most recent R&B charting single at #74. Their most recent album, Trunk Funk 101, was released in 2001.
