Robbed hit of the week 5/10/21 - La Bouche's "You Won't Forget Me"...

"You Won't Forget Me" - La Bouche
from the album S.O.S. (1998)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #48

This week's "robbed hit" comes from the Eurodance act La Bouche, formed by German Milli Vanilli/Boney M svengali Frank Farian and featuring American singer Melanie Thornton and rapper Lane McCray. The duo's debut album, Sweet Dreams, had spun off two big pop hits with the top ten "Be My Lover" and "Sweet Dreams", as well as their remake of the 70s nugget "Fallin' In Love", which reached the top-40 on the pop radio airplay chart in Billboard magazine in the fall of 1996. Two years later, the pair returned with the sophomore effort S.O.S.. The lead single from the record was "You Won't Forget Me", written by McCray with Franz Reuther and Peter Bischof-Fallenstein. Following the template of their hits from their debut, Thornton and McCray recreate the urgent thumping that scored before, but perhaps the lapse of a couple years saw Eurodance really fade from view. Still, the track had its fans, and their got their final pop chart hit in this country...

"You Won't Forget Me" climbed to just above the halfway point on the official pop Hot 100 chart in Billboard in June of 1998. The remixes of the track helped it get to #29 on their Dance Club Play list as well. Internationally, the single became a top-40 hit in Finland (#18), Sweden (#24), France (#28), and Germany (#29). The S.O.S. album, released that June, spent a week on the Billboard 200 sales tally at #194.

A second release from the record, the ballad "A Moment Of Love", went to #18 in Finland and #100 in Germany, while the title track "S.O.S." peaked at #78 in Germany.
