Songoftheday 1/21/21 - I can feel your touch, everytime you move back with your push...

from the album Ladies Edition, Woman's World (1997)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #35 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 8

Today's song of the day comes from the R&B vocal group H-Town, who we last saw here with their remake of the doo-wop classic "A Thin Line Between Love And Hate", which hit the pop top-40 in the spring of 1996. A year later, brothers Dino and Shazam Connor along with friend G.I. Jackson returned with their third studio album, Ladies Edition, Woman's World. The lead single from the record was "They Like It Slow", which featured a little (uncredited) help from funk veteran Roger Troutman. Written by the group with Dino producing, the song marked a departure from their previous albums on Luke Campbell (of 2 Live Crew)'s label, giving attention this time to a woman's needs, albeit meaning in bed. In the music video, the trio seems to have gone to the same trash bag store Missy Elliott went to...

"They Like It Slow" became H-Town's third and final top-40 pop hit in November of 1997. The song also climbed to #12 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart. Internationally, the single went to #27 in New Zealand. The Ladies Edition album came in at #53 on the Billboard 200 sales chart, and #12 on the R&B specific genre chart.

Sadly, tragedy struck twice after the release of this single. First, in 1999, Roger Troutman was killed by his brother in a murder-suicide. four years later, as they were finishing their fourth album, Dino lost his life in a car accident. That album was released a year later in 2004, but it didn't get any notice. Ten years later, Shazam and G.I. reunited for their most recent album Child Support
