Songoftheday 3/19/16 - She stepped off the bus out into the city streets, just a small town girl with her whole life packed in a suitcase by her feet...

"Fallen Angel" - Poison
from the album Open Up And Say... Ahh! (1988)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #12 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 9

Today's song of the day comes from the glam metal act Poison, who rolled out their sophomore album Open Up And Say... Ahh! with their second top-10 and biggest hit up to that time, "Nothin' But A Good Time". For the follow-up they released another uptempo rocker, "Fallen Angel". With the much-used theme of the naive girl arriving in the big, bad city, the song, written by the band and produced by Tom Werman, was tight, and their harmonies on the chorus made it a perfect fit for pop radio, and in my opinion, it was their best moment...

"Fallen Angel" became Poison's fourth top-20 pop hit in the U.S. in October of 1988. The song also climbed to #32 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart (rock radio in those days were less welcoming of pop/metal). Internationally, the record went to #21 in Australia, #32 in New Zealand, but missed the top-40 in both Canada (#55) and the UK (#59).
