Songoftheday 4/28/15 - While there is time let's go out and feel everything, if you hold me I will let into my dreams...
"The Finer Things" - Steve Winwood
from the album Back In The High Life (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #8 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 12
Today's Song of the Day comes from British rock artist Steve Winwood, whose adult contemporary opus Back In The High Life had scored him his first #1 solo pop hit with "Higher Love", as well as a top-20 follow-up in "Freedom Overspill". The third pop radio single from the record was "The Finer Things", written by Winwood with frequent collaborator Will Jennings, and sounds as it was plucked off the sessions from his Arc of a Diver album, with breezy synth riffs and positive-mantra lyrics dominating the track...
"The Finer Things" became Steve's third top-10 pop hit in America in April of 1987. The record went to #1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") chart for three weeks, and climbed to #5 on their Mainstream Rock radio list. The song was also a top-40 single in Canada, and a minor hit in Australia (it curiously never made the chart in his native Britain). It remains a fan favorite and even serves as the title for his "box set" compilation.

..and in 2000 San Francisco DJ/remixer Miguel Migs sampled the track for his single "Petalpushing"...
