Song You Should Know About 4/14/15 - Eric Prydz vs CHVRCHES' "Tether"....
In 2013, Scottish synthpop trio CHVRCHES claimed one of my favorite albums of the year with their debut album The Bones Of What You Believe. With a single that crossed over to America, "The Mother We Share", they seemed plucked from a British bar in 1983. The album made the UK top-10 and #12 in the U.S., but they have been having a little trouble following up that success on the radio.
Queue in Swedish DJ/producer Eric Prydz, who topped the British singles chart in 2004 with the Steve Winwood revamp "Call On Me". With mainstream radio in that country veering heavily towards the club side of things, with neo-house acts like Clean Bandit, Jess Glynne, and Duke Dumont dominating the charts, it was a natural fit to have Prydz go and twerk one of the trio's song, in this case their album cut "Tether". Adding cascading keyboard trills to the mix, and doubling up on Lauren's voice transforms the midlevel track into a Robyn-esque anthem...
