Songoftheday 4/20/15 - It's no exaggeration not imagination, you're the finest boy around...

"We Connect" - Stacey Q
from the album Better Than Heaven (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #35 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 2

Today's Song of the Day comes from the dance/pop singer Stacey Q, whose indie-turned-major club hit "Two Of Hearts" took her to the pop top-3 in 1986. Her follow-up single, "We Connect", was written by Willie Wilcox in the same bouncy freestyle that made the Madonna-emulating previous hit so irresistible...

"We Connect" became Stacey's second and so far last top-40 pop hit in April of 1987, while climbing to #14 on Billboard's Dance Club Play list (it topped its 12" single sales list, though). In Australia, it went all the way to #7.

Two years later, Stacey released a second album, Hard Machine, but the bass-heavy lead-off track, "Don't Make A Fool Of Yourself", stopped down at #66 on the pop list (her most recent on the Hot 100), but matched "Two Of Hearts" by peaking at #4 on the Dance chart. A year later, I had high hopes for her house-tastic "Give You All My Love" (my favorite of hers), but it topped out at #16 on the club list. She's been releasing music since as well as performing on the oldies freestyle circuit.
