Songoftheday 3/12/15 - Two of hearts lace and satin something in the air, feel like another crook that's been captured by your stare...
"Falling In Love (Uh-Oh)" - Miami Sound Machine
from the album Primitive Love (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #25 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 8
Today's Song of the Day comes from the Cuban-American dance-pop group Miami Sound Machine, whose breakthrough English-language album Primitive Love had already spun off three top-10 pop hits with "Conga", "Bad Boy", and "Words Get In The Way". Their evolution to promoting a more "adult" sound was complete with the fourth single, "Falling In Love (Uh-Oh)", Written by Larry Dermer, Joe Galdo, and Rafael Vigil, the easy-listening simple love song had nary a whisper of Latin flavor under lead singer Gloria Estefan's vocals...
"Falling In Love" became their fourth top-40 pop hit in January of 1987, though it was a much bigger hit at adult contemporary (or "easy listening") radio, peaking at #3. Internationally, the single was a top-40 hit in Canada and the Netherlands and a minor hit in England, stopping at #89.
