Songoftheday 12/17/14 - I realize you're seein' someone new I don't believe she knows you like I do, your temperamental moody side the one you always try to hide from me...

Miami Sound Machine - "Words Get In The Way"
from the album Primitive Love (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #5 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 13

Today's Song of the Day comes from the Cuban-American pop/dance group Miami Sound Machine, who got mainstream success beyond their Latin base with their second English album Primitive Love, scoring a pair of top-10 pop hits in America with "Conga" and "Bad Boy". The third single, "Words Got In The Way" took them off the dance floor and into the romance department, as lead singer Gloria Estefan plays a former lover trying to rekindle the flame, with vocals that remind me of Karen Carpenter at times....

The smooth ballad became the band's first to make the top-5 on the pop chart in September of 1986. The single went all the way to #1 on the adult contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart, their first to do so, while the Spanish-language version climbed to #17 on the Latin Songs chart. Internationally, the record went top-10 in Canada and top-20 in the Netherlands..
