Pop Sweep: March 14, 2015...

It's time to roll out the first of today's five "chart sweeps", checking out the songs making the various singles and radio charts in Billboard magazine. As always, I'm going to start out on the pop side of things, then later in the day move on to the latest on rock, R&B, country and dance radio...

On the "big" chart, Billboard's Hot 100, which combines tallies of sales (like iTunes and Amazon MP3), internet streaming (like Spotify or YouTube), and radio airplay from all formats, Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars remain at #1 for a ninth week with "Uptown Funk!"...

The highest new entry of the week up at #17 is Russo-German DJ and producer Zedd with "I Want You To Know" featuring Selena Gomez on vocals. It becomes Zedd's fourth top-20 hit; he previously went to #4 as a featured artist on Ariana Grande's "Break Free". Meanwhile, Selena's former top-10 hit "The Heart Wants What It Wants" drops to #61 this week...

Rap/rocker and resident douchebag Kid Rock returns at #66 with "First Kiss". It's the title track to his tenth studio album. Back in 2002 he climbed to #4 with "Picture"...

The second charting hit from the musical drama Empire, "You're So Beautiful", enters at #71. Featuring (again) actor/singer Jussie Smollett, this song marks the character's "coming out" to the public...

As rapper Big Sean's third studio album, Dark Sky Paradise, tops the albums chart, three more of his tracks from the set reach the Hot 100 (two are already in the top 40 - "I Don't Fuck With You" at #22 and "Blessings" at #36). First at #80 is "All Your Fault" featuring Kanye West...

Another former Target bonus track from Taylor Swift's 1989 album, "You Are In Love", is available separately now, and arrives at #83. It was co-written by Jack Antonoff from fun and Bleachers. (There's currently no YouTube clip for it as yet)...

YouTube singing star Tori Kelly pops in at #89 with "Nobody Love". Her first on the Hot 100, the song is already in the top-30 on the Mainstream Top-40 radio chart...

Country-rock newcomers A Thousand Horses take their top-20 country debut "Smoke" to the Hot 100 at #90...

The fifth single from Australian country star Keith Urban's Fuse album, "Raise 'Em Up" with Eric Church, rocks in at #93. The first four all made the top half of the Hot 100, with "We Were Us" reaching #26...

The second of Big Sean's entries, "One Man Can Change The World" with Kanye West and John Legend, drops in at #97...

Rapper Silento jumps in at #98 with "Watch Me", jumping on the dance fads of the "NaeNae", the "Stanky Leg" and the like...

At #99 is the third and final Big Sean arrival, "Paradise"...

And now on to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel, "Uptown Funk!" is on top for a sixth week, while Zedd's aforementioned "I Want You To Know" rockets in at #24...

Pop singer/songwriter Jake Hagood, aka "Who Is Fancy", lands at #37 with his first hit "Goodbye"...

Lunchmoney Lewis cashes in at #38 with his admittedly hilarious funk romp "Bills"...

Chris Brown and Tyga collaborate on the song at #39, "Ayo"...

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format,  Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars climb to #1 with "Uptown Funk!"...

British "acoustic house" act Life Of Dillon arrive at #37 with "Overload", my "pop pick of the week"...

Kentucky band Cage The Elephant cross over to this chart at #40 with their #1 alternative rock hit "Cigarette Daydreams". Last year they took "Come A Little Closer" to #24...

Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart, Taylor Swift is on top for a fourth week with "Blank Space"...

Fresh from her Grammy Award show-stopping performance, Annie Lennox comes in at #24 with "I Put A Spell On You". Aside from the Eurythmics, Annie has had four top-10 hits on this chart, with her duet with Al Green, "Put A Little Love In Your Heart", reaching #2 in 1988...

Pop-punk band Fall Out Boy show their age with their first to make this "easy listening" list, "Centuries" at #29. The song is interpolates at the beginning, "Luka" from Suzanne Vega, did climb to #3 in 1987...

That's it for the start of today's musical trip; I'll be back in 90 minutes with the latest on rock radio...
