Pop Sweep: April 4, 2015...
It's time to kick off the first of today's "chart sweeps", checking out the songs making the latest radio, club, and sales charts in Billboard magazine. As usual, I'm gonna start on the pop side of the house, then later in the day bring out the latest in rock, R&B, country, and dance music....
On the "big" chart, Billboard's Hot 100, which includes tallies of sales (like iTunes and Amazon MP3), internet streaming (like Spotify and YouTube), and radio airplay from all formats, "Uptown Funk!" from Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars spends a twelfth week at #1...
As rapper Kendrick Lamar's new release To Pimp A Butterfly is the top-selling album of the week, six of its tracks sell/stream/air enough this week to make the Hot 100. First at #61 is "King Kunta", the third "single" from the project...

The second single from the set, "The Blacker The Berry", lands at #66. The first single and radio hit "i" made it to #39 on the Hot 100 (it's not on the list this week)...
The third of the Lamar entries, "Alright", drops in at #83...
The only debut on the Hot 100 this week that's not by Kendrick comes from rock band Twenty One Pilots, who fly in at #84 with "Fairly Local", the first single from their upcoming fourth album Blurryface. It's their first time on this chart...
It's back to Lamar at #91 with "Wesley's Theory" featuring funk legend George Clinton and Thundercat...
Kendrick's last two entries feature singers Bilal and Anna Wise (the former went to #71 on the Hot 100 in 2000 with "Soul Sista"). The first, "These Walls", also has Thundercat...
And at #99, Snoop Dogg takes a ride in with "Institutionalized"...
And now on to the pop radio format charts...
On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel, Taylor Swift's "Style" is on top for a second week...
French DJ/dance music producer David Guetta shimmies in at #35 with "Hey Mama" featuring Nicki Minaj and Afrojack. It's the second hit at this format from his Listen album; the first, "Dangerous", climbed to #23...
Another French dance music artist, DJ Snake, follows up his top-5 hit "Turn Down For What" with the song at #37, "You Know You Like It" featuring British act AlunaGeorge.
British "acoustic house" trio Life Of Dillon arrive at #38 with "Overload". The track is already at #31 on the Adult Top-40 list in its fourth week...
Jamaican-American pop/reggae artist Shaggy makes a comeback at #39 with "I Need Your Love" featuring Swedish singer Mohombi, Faydee, and Costi. He went to #1 on this list back in 2000 with "Angel" and "It Wasn't Me"...
Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format, Ed Sheeran reigns for a sixth week with "Thinking Out Loud"...
Jason Derulo dances in at #34 with "Want To Want Me". It's his seventh hit on this chart; his last, "Talk Dirty", climbed the highest so far at #21 last year...
British indie-pop duo the Ting Tings claim their second hit here at #40 with "Wrong Club". Back in 2008 they peaked at #30 with "That's Not My Name". This new one has already climbed to #2 on the Dance Club Play list...
Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary, or "easy listening" radio chart, "Thinking Out Loud" remains at #1 for a third week...
Madonna comes in at #21 with "Ghosttown", my "Pop Pick of the Week". Madge has topped this chart five times, starting with "Live To Tell" in 1986 to most recently in 1995 with "Take A Bow"...
The top rock airplay hit in the country, Walk The Moon's "Shut Up And Dance", crosses over to this chart at #30...
That's all for the start of today's musical journey...I'll be back in 90 minutes with the latest on rock radio...
