Robbed hit of the week 3/30/15 - The Human League's "I Need Your Loving"...

"I Need Your Loving" - The Human League
from the album Crash (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #44

This week's "robbed hit" is by the British new wave band the Human League, who got shipped to Minneapolis for the sonic overhaul with producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (formerly of the Time), who rewarded them with a #1 pop hit in America with "Human". The thing is, with their control of the album, Crash sounded nothing like the group's previous work, even in a jarring way, and with second single "I Need Your Loving" attempting to make them over into Janet Jackson, the funk had a bit of trouble getting through...

Even though "I Need Your Loving" was a trainwreck that even the band disavows, they nearly missed the pop top-40 in America on the momentum of "Human" in January of 1987. The single also crossed over to the R&B charts at #52. Internationally, the record was a minor hit in England (#72) and Canada (#67).
