Rock Sweep: July 6, 2013...



Round two of today's "chart sweeps" of the latest songs reaching the radio charts at Billboard magazine is upon us, and now I've got the newest on rock radio...

On the composite Hot Rock Airplay chart, Imagine Dragons seem unstoppable as they reign for a 17th week with "Radioactive"...

The top entry at #44 is French modern rock band Phoenix with their top-20 alternative hit "Trying To Be Cool"...

Tame Impala, from the city of Perth on the western coast of Australia, arrives at #46 with "Elephant"...


Christian rock act Skillet are in at #47 with "Sick Of It", which is top-20 on the mainstream list...


The final debut on the big rock chart at #49 is Alaskan alt-rock group Portugal, The Man with "Purple, Yellow, Red and Blue"...


...and now for the individual format sub-charts....

On the Mainstream Rock panel, Alice In Chains remain on top for a third week with "Stone"...

Another veteran grunge band from the Northwest, Soundgarden, have the highest debut at #29 with "Halfway There", the third single from their latest King Animal release. The first two, "Been Away Too Long" and "By Crooked Steps",  topped the chart...


The other entry at #40 is "supergroup" Device, with "You Think You Know". It follows their #1 debut hit "Vilify"...


Meanwhile, on the Modern Rock/Alternative chart, the Neighbourhood spend a fifth non-consecutive week on top with "Sweater Weather"...

The top debut at #37 is the third single from Silversun Pickups' Neck Of The Woods album, "Dots And Dashes (Enough Already)". the band has six top-10 hits on this chart so far...


British indie-rock act Foals are in at #39 with their second American hit "My Number"...


The last entry here at #40 is the former #1 mainstream rock hit "Hangman's Body Count" by Danish heavy metal group Volbeat...


Over at the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, Canadian YouTube heroes Walk Off The Earth score their first #1 with "Red Hands"...

Crossing over onto this format at #29 are Imagine Dragons with "Radioactive"...


The second entry at #30 are the indie-folk duo Civil Wars, with "The One That Got Away", my "Rock Pick of the Week"...


On the harder-edged Active Rock panel, the aforementioned "Stone" by Alice In Chains spends a second week at #1, while Soundgarden and Device debut at #28 and #39 respectively...

Lastly, on the older-skewing Heritage Rock format, Shinedown remain on top for a sixth week with "I'll Follow You"...

The solitary entry here at #17 is the return of Nine Inch Nails with "Came Back Haunted". which leaps into the alternative top-10...(careful, this video has a warning for seizure-prone people)
