Pop Sweep: June 29, 2013...
It's time to kick off today's five-part "chart sweeps" of the new songs making the weekly music radio charts in Billboard magazine. This time out it's the pop side of things, including the 'big chart', Billboard's Hot 100, which combines sales, airplay, and streaming data....
On the Hot 100, Robin Thicke takes a second week on top with "Blurred Lines", featuring Pharrell Williams, who also appears on the #2 track, Daft Punk's "Get Lucky"...
The Voice excrutiatingly ended it's fourth season this week, and even though the final performance singles won't show up on until next week's chart, five of the ten debuts on this list belong to competitors on the show. The top entry at #66 is the cover of Kenny Loggins' "Danny's Song" by the Swon Brothers, who placed third at the end of it all. Anne Murray originally took the song to #7 in 1972 thirteen years before the elder Swon (Zach) was born.

Entering at #74 is newcomer Austin Mahone, who has "graduated" from YouTube to his first bonifde hit and Hot 100 appearance on "What About Love"...
The singer who did end up winning The Voice, Danielle Bradbery, overcame pitch issues and vapid delivery (well, not overcame, but ignored) and rode Blake Shelton's brofandom to the top, and two of her songs make the list - first at #78 is the most age-appropriate "Who I Am", a chart-topping country hit that Jessica, also then 17, took to #28 on the Hot 100...
Hawaiian folk-rocker Jack Johnson returns to the chart at #88 with "I Got You". It's his first hit here since 2010's "You And Your Heart", which so far is his biggest reaching #20. It's my "Pop Pick of the Week"...
A very apt comparison for the Swon Brothers, country hitmakers Florida Georgia Line, are back at #89 with "Round Here", the third single from their debut album. Their first, "Cruise", is still in the top-10 at #6 due to crossover airplay and sales from a "pop" remix featuring rapper Nelly...
The second Swon Brothers performance from the top-5 episode of The Voice was Bob Seger's "Turn The Page", also from 1972, arriving at #90. The original never made the chart, though a remake by speed-metal kings Metallica topped the rock chart for 11 weeks and went to #78 on the Hot 100. As been said to me, and totally agree, these affable boys were seemingly born for a reality show of their own...
Meanwhile, Danielle Bradbery's other performance, the awkward reading of the Rodney Crowell via Tim McGraw classic "Please Remember Me", comes in at #91....
The last Voice entry to make the Hot 100 was ironically by one of the two singer eliminated from the show before the finals. Amber Carrington, from Adam Levine's team, takes Adam's band Maroon 5's album cut "Sad" on to the list at #92. (The other one that moved on to the top-3, Michelle Chamuel, put her two songs in the "Bubbling Under" chart)...
Jumping in at #96 is country singer Thomas Rhett, with his second single on the 'big' chart, "It Goes Like This". His first, "Something To Do With My Hands", went to #93 last year...
Bouncing in as the last debut at #97 is the first Hot 100 hit for alt-electronica act Major Lazer, which their salacious "Bubble Butt", featuring rappers Tyga and Mystic and singer Bruno Mars...(NSFW)
...and now for the pop radio format charts...
On the Mainstream top-40 radio panel, "Can't Hold Us" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Ray Dalton spend a second week at #1, while the aforementioned "What About Love" by Austin Mahone is the top entry at #36....
The other debut at #40 is hip-hop artist J. Cole with "Power Trip" featuring Latin soul star Miguel...(NSFW)
Meanwhile, over on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 chart, Pink and Nate Ruess hang on for an eighth week on top with "Just Give Me A Reason".
The top debut here at #32 is the Hot 100 charttopper "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke with Pharrell and T.I. It's the first time for the blue-eyed soul singer to make this chart...
OneRepublic return with the third hit from their Native album, "Counting Stars". The lead-off single "Feel Again" went to #8 here last year...
The third and last entry on the Adult top-40 list at #39 is "Lover Of The Light", the former top-10 rock hit for British folk-rock leaders Mumford & Sons....
Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary, of "Easy Listening" format, Bruno Mars climbs to #1 with "When I Was Your Man". It's only his second time at this summit after his debut solo hit "Just The Way You Are" in 2010...
Arriving at #28 is Demi Lovato with her former top-10 hit on the Hot 100, "Heart Attack"....
One notch below that at #29 is Maroon 5 with "Love Somebody". It follows "Daylight", which is still up at #3...
That's it for now....I'll be back in 90 minutes with the newest on rock radio....
