Brit Sweep: June 2, 2013...

The weekend's coming to a close, and it's time to check out the just-released official British singles chart to sample the songs making their first appearance in the top-100....

The biggest-selling song in the UK this week is by Canadian blue-eyed soulster Robin Thicke, who debuts right at the top with "Blurred Lines". Thicke has only had two previous hits in this country, with "Lost Without U" just missing the top-10 at #11 in 2007...I"m convinced now this really can be the "song of the summer"...

Singer/songwriter and mentor on Brtiain's The Voice, Jessie J, returns with the first preview single from her upcoming second album, "Wild", featuring rappers Big Sean and Dizzee Rascal. In 2011 she topped the charts here with both "Price Tag" and "Domino". You know, I'm not completely sold on this track, or on her "Miley-izing", but then again, I loathed her "Do It Like A Dude" when it came out as her debut...

Jennifer Lopez returns to the British chart at #17 with "Live It Up" featuring 3x collaborator Pitbull. J-Lo has gone to #1 here three times, with "Love Don't Cost A Thing", "Get Right", and her first Pitbull record, "On The Floor"...Lord this video is 10x gayer than any Pride parade I've ever been to, and Jesus it Pitbull freaking delicious up in here. And without the shades (mostly)!

Newcomer reggae artist Stylo G debuts on the list at #18 with his first hit, "Soundbwoy".

The American musidrama Nashville must be hitting British shores, as a track from the show makes the UK chart as the kid-sung version of the Lumineers' "Ho Hey" enters at #87. The original went to #8 in this country. The girls who sing on the record, Lennon & Maisy Stella, are real life sisters as well...

Rapper Eminem's 2006 single "Shake That" finally reaches the British top-100 at #90. It originally went to #6 in the States. He's topped the charts here seven times, the latest as a featured artist on the similar "Smack That" by Akon...(NSFW)

That does it for this week's British musical "tea-time"....I'll be back tomorrow with another Song of the Day, part two of this week's "album sweep", and my "robbed hit" of the week...Cheers!
