Kraut Sweep: March 5, 2013...

I'm back from this afternoon's recap of the French charts to check out the latest songs doing the same in Germany this week, as will.i.am and Britney Spears won't let go of the top spot for a seventh week with "Scream & Shout".

The top debut all the way at #5 is Iranian-born singer Arash, who now lives in Sweden, with his biggest hit to date, "She Makes Me Go" featuring reggaeton singer Sean Paul. Arash has had two other top-40 hits in Germany, reaching #11 with a song he took to #1 in Sweden in 2004, "Boro Boro"...

The novelty dance song that's already gone top-10 in a number of European countries finally makes its entrance in Germany, as "Das Kleine Kueken Piept" ("The Little Chick Peeps") by Pulcino Pio comes in at #18. The Italian original topped the chart there last year...I'll take this over the Harlem Shake any day...

One Direction take their charity single "One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks) to #22 in Germany, the same position their "Live While We're Young" (their previous biggest hit here) did last year...

German rock band Bosse (named for its leader) chime in at #29 with "Schonste Zeit" ("Best Time")....

American group OneRepublic come in at #31 with "If I Lose Myself". They've done pretty well in Germany, hitting the top-10 five times, topping the list with "Apologize"...

As Justin TImberlake's "Suit & Tie" moves up to #25, his followup "Mirrors" enters the chart at #34....

Follow Your Instinct debut at #40 with "My City"...

Pop/R&B group Sohne Mannheims are back at #56 with "One Love". Led by singer Xavier Naidoo, they have reached the top-10 four times, going to #1 with "Das hat die Welt noch nicht gesehen" ("That The World's Never Seen") in 2008, and this song came in third in Germany's contest to find their song for Eurovision, called Unser Song, the first of multiple songs debuting this week from that show (the winner, Cascada's "Glorious", jumps to #6 while the runner up "Nackert" by LaBrassBanda is at #13...

Another song that was in the Eurovision running, "Heart On The Line" by Blitz Kids MVT., is one rung under at #57. They came in sixth at Unser Song...

Ben Ivory, who came in seventh at Unser Song, arrives on the top-100 at #60 with "The Righteous Ones"...(this is my fave song of them, though maybe not for the whole show)...

Nica and Joe, who placed fifth at Unser Song, debut at #69 with "Elevated"...(this is the one I would've loved to gone on to Eurovision.)

Betty Dittrich came in eighth at Unser Song with her entry "LaLaLa" which is on the charts at #71...

Taking a little break from the Unser Song contest, Alanis Morissette enters at #73 with "Receive". She took "Ironic" to #8 in 1996...

British singer/songwriter/tabloid item Tom Odell debuts at #76 with "Another Love", which he's already taken top-10 in neighboring Belgium and the Netherlands...

Danish dance singer Whigfield is at #94 with a new version of his worldwide hit "Saturday Night" this time featuring rapper Calprit. The original went to #1 in 1994...

Back to the Unser Song show that was broadcast on Valentine's Day, fourth-place finisher Saint Lu enters the German top-100 chart at #88 with "Craving"...

Finn Martin, who came in ninth in Unser Song, is at #89 with "Change"...

American rapper Lil' Wayne comes in at #93 with "Love Me" featuring Drake and Future. This is only his third top-100 hit as a lead artist, where he only went top-40 in Germany with "Lollipop" in 2008...(NSFW)

For the last debut of the week I'm back to Unser Song, with the twelfth-place finalist, Mia Diekow, with "Lieblingslied" ("Favorite Song"). That means that just the tenth and eleventh placers missed the top-100...

That does it for this week's German music scene. I'm always excited in the buildup to Eurovision. Tomorrow I'll bring you another Song of the Day, Candletime, 6 of the 60s, and this week's Aussie Sweep. Good night!
