Brit Sweep: March 24, 2013...
Well, the weekend's coming to a close, so time to check out the new songs reaching the top-100 of the Official Charts in the UK this week, tracking all the sales of the songs in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
The top-selling single this week is the first #1 hit for girl-group the Saturdays with "What About Us". The four British and one Irish women have recently jumped on the reality show train, and this track actually charted on the American dance list a couple of months ago. It features reggae-pop artist Sean Paul, who scores his second featured-credit #1 after Blu Cantrell's "Breathe" in 2003.

Thirty-two years after they had their first British chart hit with "Dreaming Of Me", legendary electro-pop band Depeche Mode return at #60 with "Heaven". Though they have racked up 14 top-10 hits in the UK, they have never went to #1 (or the top-3, for that matter), but they have had two #1 albums (Songs Of Faith & Devotion and Ultra), and this one is my "British pick of the Week"....
Another track from the Les Miserables soundtrack, "Do You Hear The People Sing" by revolutionaries played by Aaron Tveit and Eddie Redmayne, forces itself in at #77. It's included on the expanded version of the soundtrack to the film that just came out on video...
The last entry of the week at #84 is by British drum-and-bass DJ Zinc with "Only For Tonight" featuring Sasha Keable. In 2007, he's had his only top-40 hit to date with "138 Trek"...
That does it for tonight....thanks for stopping by, and I'll be back tomorrow with another Song of the Day, Candletime, Part two of this week's "album sweep", and my "robbed hit" of the week. Good night!
