7 of the 70s: 3/7/13 (1979)...

I'm back with another seven nuggets from the 70s, and this week I'm back to 1979, the year McDonald's introduced the "Happy Meal"...

Amii Stewart - "Knock On Wood"
from the album Knock On Wood (1979)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1

Donna Summer - "Heaven Knows"
from the album Live And More (1978)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #4

Summer sang with the Brooklyn Dreams member that wasn't her husband, Joe "Bean" Esposito for the second portion of the "MacArthur Park Suite" that became a single in its own right. They would both later claim a spot each on the Flashdance soundtrack. (It sucks that the suite was omitted from the CD reissue of the album.)

Sister Sledge - "He's The Greatest Dancer"
from the album We Are Family (1979)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #9

I know all the gays love the "We Are Family", but I'll take this jam over that anthem anyday. The lyrics disprove the theory that disco lyrics were benign.

France Joli - "Come To Me"
from the album France Joli (Come To Me) (1979)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #15

The Quebecois teenage singer got her big break filling in for Donna Summer at a huge beach concert in Fire Island that July...

Chanson - "Don't Hold Back"
from the album Chanson (1978)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #21

One-hit-wonder from a disco studio group led by James Jamerson Jr.

Giorgio Moroder - "The Chase"
from the album Midnight Express (Original Soundtrack) (1978)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #33

The German producer responsible for many of disco's highs gets his own day in the sun courtesy of this Oscar-winning score snippet from Midnight Express.

Sylvester - "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)"
from the album Step II (1978)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #36

If the disco was church, this song was its "Ave Maria". The late great true ruler of the disco....

And that does it for this week's 70s disco flashback...I'll be back with 8 more from 1989...
