Soul Sweep: Februrary 9, 2013...
Hey gang, thanks for dropping by, I'm back with the third part of today's "chart sweep" sampling the newest songs making their way on to the singles charts in Billboard magazine, and now I'm up to the newest on R&B radio.
On the R&B/HipHop Airplay chart, Miguel spends an incredible 21st week at #1 with "Adorn". If the editors didn't create that bastardized version of the "R&B Songs" chart, this song would have the longest stay on top ever.
The top debut at #47 is by third-season American Idol winner and current meltdown item Fantasia, who since her win has placed four singles in the R&B top-10, with "When I See U" reaching #1 in 2007. Her latest, "Lose To Win", uses the instrumental from the Commodores' "Nightshift" as a backdrop, and is already #15 on the Adult R&B list. Grade: C-

Houston rapper Kirko Bangz follows up his #5 R&B hit "Drank In My Cup" with "Keep It Trill" which comes in at #50, and here he's going the Drake route. Grade: D+ (NSFW)
Meanwhile, over on the "Adult R&B" or Urban Contemporary format Miguel also stays at #1 for a thirteenth week with "Adorn".
Singer/songwriter Will Downing, from Brooklyn, who went to #18 on this chart in 2010 with "Glad I Met You Tonight". He returns at #39 with "Stuff That I Like". It's my pick of the week in R&B. Grade: B
The other new entry at #40 is gospel singer Anthony Brown & Group TherAPy with "Testimony", his first R&B hit, and I can get into this groove. Grade: B-
That's it for part three...in 90 minutes I'll bring you the latest on country radio. Groove on!
