7 of the 70s: 2/7/13...

This week's flashback to the 70s brings us to 1975 the year the Louisiana Superdome opened in New Orleans.

Frankie Valli - "My Eyes Adored You"
from the album Closeup (1975)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1

After MoWest records refused to release the song under the Four Seasons' name, Valli bought the masters himself and released it with a new company, with a #1 hit as sweet revenge.

Ace - "How Long"from the album Five-A-Side (An Ace Album) (1974)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #3

I had a major crush on Paul Carrack back in the day. Also was a big fan of his work in Squeeze, but this predated that group by a decade.

Captain & Tennille - "The Way That I Want To Touch You"
from the album Love Will Keep Us Together (1975)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #4

My all-time favorite C&T song (and that's saying a lot), this is one big booty-call written by Toni to Daryl.

Austin Roberts - "Rocky"
from the album Rocky (1975)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #9

Never had a bubblegum record gotten so depressing than this ditty about a guy with his doomed young wife.

Amazing Rhythm Aces - "Third Rate Romance"
from the album Stacked Deck (1975)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #14

The countryfied rock group had a much more comical tale to tell in this white-trash hook-up slice of paradise.

Bruce Springsteen - "Born To Run"
from the album Born To Run (1975)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #23

It's easy to forget that the most iconic of seventies rock hits never even made the top-20.

The Average White Band - "If I Ever Lose This Heaven"
from the album Cut The Cake (1975)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #39

The Scottish soulsters had their most convincing R&B track with this falsetto-driven number.

That does it with today's bell-bottom trip back, I'll be back later with 8 more from 1985..

"How Long" is hands down one of my favorite songs of the 70s. So good...
