Kraut Sweep: February 19, 2013...
Welcome back, gang, I've got the latest songs making their first appearance on the top-100 sales cahrt in Germany this week, as will.i.am and Britney Spears dig in their heels for a fifth week with "Scream & Shout" (ugh).
The top entry this week all the way at #2 is the return of new wave pioneers gone rock stars Depeche Mode, with their first top-10 hit in four years, "Heaven". In their career the band has topped the German pop chart twice, with "People Are People" in 1984, and again in 2001 with "Dream On". Also, this is their ninth song to peak at #2 so far. In fact, the "B-side" to this single will be coming up in a bit...

Coming in at #22 is the former British #1 hit by the Dutch dance act Bingo Players with "Get Up (Rattle)" featuring American rap/dance collective the Far East Movement...
One rung under the Players at #23 are Las Vegas modern rockers Imagine Dragons with "Radioactive" , the followup to "It's Time", which is now at a new peak of #20 in Germany...
74-year-old German Schlager singer Heino from Dusseldorf has the top selling album in Germany this week with Mit Freundlichen Grüßen, and he also has three individual songs on the singles chart, all covers of recent hits done in his own style. First at #27 is his cover of punk band Die Artze's "Junge" ("Boy")...
Marcus Becker arrives at #65 with "Wenn in Dorf die Bratkartoffeln blühn", which according to the Google translate, is "When the Potatoes in the Village Bloom". OOOOOkay. Heck if I know, considering the comic tone of the song it might be quite right...I'm frightened to say this is mad catchy...
Veteran British soul/rock screamer Joe Cocker returns at #79 with "I Come In Peace". Joe has had two top-10 German hits ("WIth A Little Help From My Friends" in the 60s and "Up Where We Belong" in the 80s), while this is the second chart hit in a row following "Fire It Up", which just went to #48...
The "B-Side" of Depeche Mode's "Heaven" single, "All That's Mine", arrives on its own at #86...
Heino's second entry, a cover of Rammstein's "Sonne" ("Sun"), comes in at #91..
...and Heino's third debut, his rendition of Peter Fox's "Haus Am See" ("House By The Lake"), enters at #96...
That's a wrap for tonight... thanks for stopping by, and I'll return tomorrow with another Song of the Day, Candletime, 6 more from the 60s, and this week's "Aussie Sweep"... Good night!
