6 of the 60s: 2/12/13 (1966)...
It's time for another half-dozen nuggets from the 60s, and this week I'm back to 1966, the year the Beach Boys released the classic Pet Sounds.
The Troggs - "Wild Thing"
from the album Wild Thing/From Nowhere (1966)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1
We just recently lost singer Reg Presley of the Troggs, who gave mainstream America their first big taste of grunge with this delightfully dirty little number.

Los Bravos - "Black Is Black"
from the album Black Is Black (1966)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #4
Los Bravos are from Madrid, Spain, but they had a ringer in German singer Mike Kogel to sing this infectious earworm.
James & Bobby Purify - "I'm Your Puppet"
from the album James & Bobby Purify (1967)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #6
Bobby and James were cousins, not brothers, and "Bobby" wasn't even a "Purify", but adopted the name to mimic the "brother" acts of the time.
The Sandpipers - "Guantanamera"
from the album Guatanamera (1966)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #9
Cuba's most famous song gets hijacked by the whitest of the whites with this easy-listening standard.
Carla Thomas - "B-A-B-Y"
from the album Carla (1966)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #14
The queen of Memphis Soul is so laid back on this I feel like I'm sitting along a river.
Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass - "What Now My Love"
from the album What Now My Love (1966)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #24
While the kiddies were out buying Beatles and Stones' singles, Herb was the one really raking in the cash, with a string of huge albums including this one, that topped the album chart for nine weeks.
That does it for tonight...I'll be back tomorrow with 7 more from 1976 and 8 from 1986.
