Songoftheday 2/5/13 - You must be lost in a faraway land, I searched forever your footprints in the sand...
America - "The Border"
from the album Your Move (1983)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #33 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 6
Today's Song of the Day is by the soft-rock duo that commanded the 70s, America, who had a big comeback in 1982 with their top-10 pop single "You Can Do Magic". That song, written and produced by Russ Ballard, got them their biggest success in eight years, so Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley recruited Ballard again to helm their next album, Your Move. The first single, "The Border", was a more "rock-ish" affair meant to steer them away from the soft stuff that was growing out of favor in 1983.
"The Border" spent a month and a half in the pop top-40, and went all the way to #4 on the adult-contemporary (soft-rock) chart. It is their latest to make the pop chart, while they continued to have some more success in AC, including their next album, which gave them two more charting singles, with "Special Girl" going to #15.
and here's America performing "the Border" at Mohegan Sun a couple of years ago..
Up tomorrow: Sorrowful saline.
