Songoftheday 3/6/16 - The planets are lining up we're bringin' brighter days, they're all in line waiting for you...
"Another Part Of Me" - Michael Jackson
from the album Bad (1987)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #11 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 8
Today's song of the day is by the self-proclaimed "King Of Pop", the late Michael Jackson, whose post-Thriller album Bad lived up to the hype so far with five consecutive #1 pop hits with "I Just Can't Stop Loving You", "Bad", "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Man In The Mirror", and "Dirty Diana". Even more striking was how sonically different all those were from each other, from the adult-softness of "I Just Can't..." to the rock crash of "Dirty Diana". The sixth single from the album veering more into the synth-R&B territory, with "Another Part Of Me" fitting in with the growing new-jack-swing phase of soul music dominating radio. Written by Jackson and co-produced with Quincy Jones, the song would get the dubious honor of breaking his streak of main-release top-10 hits...
"Another Part Of Me" stopped one rung short of the top ten on the American pop chart in September of 1988. However, the single reached #1 on Billboard's R&B chart, the fifth from Bad (only rock hit "Dirty Diana" missed that mark at #8). The extended version also climbed to #18 on their Dance Club Play list. Internationally, the single made the top ten in Belgium (#3), Ireland (#5), Switzerland (#5), the Netherlands (#8), Poland (#9), and Germany (#10), while in the UK the track made it to #15, in Canada it stopped at #28, and in France it peaked at #32.
