Robbed hit of the week 3/7/16 - Stevie B's "Spring Love (Come Back To Me)...

"Spring Love (Come Back To Me)" - Stevie B.
from the album Party Your Body (1988)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #43

This week's "robbed hit" comes from singer/songwriter/producer Stevie B., who grew up in Florida (the "B" is his middle name Bernard, and he dropped his "Hill" surname), toiling at a number of jobs until he got his own career break in the late 80's, releasing his first single "Party Your Body" in 1987. That Latin freestyle classic made it to #40 on the Dance Club Play chart, and #69 on the R&B chart in Billboard, but the single sold major numbers in New York and Miami. After putting out a full-length album of the same name, Stevie's second single "Dreamin' Of Love" landed him a Hot 100 pop hit at #80 (and #21 on the dance chart). The third song sent to radio from Party Your Body was his best so far, "Spring Love (Come Back To Me)". Written by Stevie and co-produced with Tolga Katas, the mid-tempo dance track flowed a bit more naturally than the usual frenetic pace of the genre, and the back-up vocals make this record at the end...

"Spring Love" just missed the top-40 on the American pop chart, stopping at #43 in August of 1988. It was his first to reach the top-5 on Billboard's Dance Club Play chart at #5.
