"Fascinated" - Company B
from the album Company B (1987)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #21 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 8

Today's SOTD comes from the Miami dance music "girl-group" Company B, who were put together in the mid-80s by musician and producer Ish Ledesma, who had a double shot of pop success himself in the 70s with his band Foxy ("Get Off") and again in the early 80s with a top-40 hit with OXO with "Whirly Girl". His proteges, named "Company B" after the "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" song, released a club track independently, "Fascinated", that took off so well it got a major-label release with Atlantic Records. Written and produced by Ledesma, the song had an unforgettable synth hook that even overshadowed the members' white spiked wigs...

"Fascinated" became Company B's sole top-40 pop hit in June of 1987, while reaching #1 on Billboard's Dance Club Play chart the previous March. The single also made the top-40 in the Netherlands. Their debut album would spin out three more big club hits, with "Full Circle" reaching #5 and "Signed In Your Book Of Love" at #9. A year later, the trio would lose the wigs and subsequently radio and club play as their second album sadly went pretty much unnoticed.
